Justice for Victim of Excessive Force by School Security Guard
On July 21, 2010, The Jackowiak Law Office obtained a trial verdict in favor of our client Derrick Johnson, who sued the Chicago Public Schools on behalf of his minor son. Johnson's son was a 14-year-old high school freshman when he was shoved and put in a headlock by a cafeteria monitor at Harlan Community Academy, a Chicago public high school near 96th and Michigan on Chicago's south side.
The school board argued that the guard's use of force was reasonable, but the jury disagreed and found the security guard guilty of using excessive force in violation of the student's constitutional rights.
The case was Johnson v. Chicago Board of Education, 09 C 1374, before Judge Amy St. Eve in the Northern District of Illinois.
